Labor Day weekend 2012 saw a reunion of Tools who played in the 80's and were teammates on the 1990 champions, from left, Gerry Mello, Bill Anhut, Richard "Blanco" White, Ken Shoop and Mark Sarver.
Tools co-founder Bill Anhut celebrates a big birthday in June 2012.  Helping him enjoy the party are 1980s teammates, from left, Ken Shoop, Bruce Urban, Bill Anhut, Mark Sarver and Bill Kreykenbohm.
It was yet another birthday toast to our coach Mark Sarver at the Crystal City Sports Pub by Mark Bultman, Dylan Kautz, Mike Gummey, Will O'Day, Bill and Barbara Kreykenbohm and Doug Walker. We were also celebrating, on the way to the league title, another doubleheader sweep on June 17, 2009.
It was Tools Night at Nats Park in 2011. With a rare Wednesday bye, the Tools went to watch a game instead of playing one. From left, Mike Sabol, Mark Sarver, Eric Stewart, Katherine Williams, Tracie and John Revette and in the row behind, Craig Hughes.

What did Julia, Carla and Stacy have in common? They all became brides of Tools infielders. Julia married 2nd baseman Chris Hamm. Carla married 1st baseman Mark Bultman. Stacy married 3rd baseman Mike Gummey. So what was up with the Tools short stop?

Barbara Kreykenbohm relaxes on husband Bill as she enjoys her retirement after 16 years as the Tools official photographer, 2006.

Bill Anhut, decked out in our original Beecher Tool and Die
uniform, prepares to offer a pitch in this 1983 Saturday game
at Shirley Park.

"The Parka" ... for 27 years, Bill Kreykenbohm wore it to Tools games on sweltering summer evenings and frigid fall nights.  Generations of Tools ragged on The Parka and Billy K for wearing it, but it became a symbol of our franchise's continuity.  In 2013, The Parka was donated to a homeless shelter.  Tears were shed.
Most of the fun-loving nucleus of one of the Tools greatest teams hanging out at our 2003 party.  From left, Jay and Liz Braun, Jeff Franco, Joe Lombardo, Mireille Ziesness, Tony Mason holding Courtney Walker, Michele and Rich Menseck, Mark Bultman.

For 20 years starting in 1989, the annual Tools Golf Championship was held at area courses, organized by Bill Anhut, shown here making another great tee shot.  On the opening tee, anyone who failed to out drive Sarv had to wear our old powder blue Keyhole Inn jersey and every year, there was at least one who did.

The Tools great Jeff Franco played short stop from 1998-2006 like no one else, combining range, superb arm with quick release, dives in the dirt and the ability to turn impossible double plays.  Add the ninth best batting average of .561 and the second highest on base average of .657 and you have a superb player.  On the other hand there was this frequent game time query: "Hey, Sarv, did you know Franco is in Cleveland?

Mark Bultman congratulates Bill Kreykenbohm on his completion of a one-hit pitching gem in a crushing 13-0 win over Harvey's Wallbangers on the way to a post-season playoffs championship, July 19, 2003.  Also shown are ringer Aaron Fray and Rich Menseck.
The recently retired Ken Ferebee came out to help us on Saturday, June 23, 2008 at Jennie Dean Field ... and scored the Tools 10,000th run since we started keeping statistics in 1983.

When Tony Mason joined the Tools in 2000, he had an inauspicious beginning, fracturing a finger on the first outfield ball hit to him.  Over his seven year career there were other strange moments ... hit in the head by a thrown ball that knocked him silly ... passed on the base paths by Ken Ferebee, negating a home run ... singling, then quietly switching places with first base coach Jeff Franco, neither the umpire or the coach noticing ... hosting the team party and showing up after everyone else.  He brought a lot of fun, but also a career .544 batting average, 10th best all time.  Tony was a prolific run producer, currently 9th all time in RBI average and 10th in run production average.

Brian Hurney was a steady presence on the Tools from 2000 - 2008.
He compiled a .504 lifetime batting average and is in the top 15 for
career batting average, RBI and runs.  In the 2007 early bird tourney,
he hit a stunning .762 in the lead-off spot and helped lead us to the
tourney title.  He was a member of our first spring league champions
of 2002 and the unbeaten spring 2003 champions.

Mike Gummey lines a base hit, Gunston Park, 2012.  Looking on are Mark Sarver, Courtney Sabol, Chris Hamm, Will O'Day, Ben Peden, Chris Bailey, John Revette, Mike Sabol and Jay Braun.  The catcher is Mark Sutton, coach of The Bashers.

Hanging out after a great night of softball in 2006 at Crystal City Sports Pub, our wonderful sponsor since 1994.
Tools Coach Mark Sarver, #2, enjoying his birthday with Tools alumni, Barbara and Bill Kreykenbohm, Jim Rohrbach and Bob Emeritz.  The team then offers a toast, but with their encouragement a waitress is about to strike with a plate full of whipped cream, Crystal City Sports Pub, June 2009.
Another night at the Sports Pub, 2009, Hughes, Sarver, Walker, Stewart, O'Donnell, Hamm, Gummey, Sabol, Peden.

The Tools hanging out together at the Crystal City Sports Pub on June 26, 2019.        From left front and around, Eric Stewart, Chris MacDonald, Mark Sarver, Ben Simon, Terrence Dolan, Sam Wallach, Drew Mitrisin, Jeff Hart, Ben Peden, Chris Hamm, Mike Sabol.

Short Stop Eric Stewart executed a record five double plays in five innings in a single spring game in 2011. He also posted a .735 on base average batting for the spring season.
Three retired Tools stars were honored at a 2003 party.  Photo 1: Doug Walker presents former second baseman Scott Bresnahan with a sweatshirt.  Scott was a stalwart from 1989-1999.  Photo 2: Ken Ferebee gifts former 3rd baseman/outfielder Jim Rohrbach.  Jim was a star from 1992-2001.  Photo 3:  Coach Mark Sarver talks about former infielder and pitcher Jim Stensland.  Stens excelled at every infield position between 1994-2000 and 2002.

The Tools hang by the wall on a hot, sticky afternoon at Jennie Dean Field, awaiting our next post-season playoffs game.  Joe Lombardo (partially obscured top left), Jay Braun (seated), Bill Anhut, Scott Bresnahan, Ken Ferebee, Jeff Franco (partially obscured), Mark Sarver and Bill Kreykenbohm, 1999.

Craig Hughes pitched masterfully for the Tools from 2009-2016, leading us to a remarkable six league titles and one post-season playoffs championship.  Craig's dependability could be relied on to keep opposing hitters in check.  His spring season lifetime records was an astonishing 64-10-1.

Doug Walker joined the Tools in 1989, his career spanning 31 years through 2019.  The first Tool with 1,000 career hits, Doug retired with 1,014.  He also was our all-time leader with 2,357 trips to the plate, 140 triples and 777 singles and was second with 764 RBI and 711 games played.  Doug contributed to nine league championships.

The Tools 2015 outfield play was raised to another level with the play of Brad Moehringer, making the catch, and Chuck Spivey.  The pair cover a lot of ground and have terrific arms.  Overall, our outfield play was excellent, saving a lot of runs and helping us to win crucial close games.

Former Tools stars Jeff Franco and Joe Lombardo celebrate another win.
Mark Bultman shattered a pair of Tools batting records in the 2007 Early Bird Tourney, ripping 19 straight hits and reaching base 24 times in a row.
A new Tools championship era began in 2009 when we won the Arlington Early Bird "B" Tournament. It wasn't easy. Twenty one players wore Tools Red. Standing, from the left: John Revette, Pat Wilcox, Matt Sovesky, Ben Peden, Dylan Kautz, Jon Tremonte, Jeff Fus. Kneeling, left to right: Craig Hughes, Mike Gummey, Coach Mark Sarver, Mark Bultman, Josh O'Donnell. Others who played but were missing for the photo: Chris Hamm, Jay Braun, Joe Lombardo, Doug Walker, Will O'Day, Ken Ferebee, Ryan Fisher, Andy Lindner, Matt Tremonte.

The Tools celebrate moments after winning the 2007 Arlington Early Bird Tourament. Surrounding Coach Mark Sarver, trophy in hand, are (front) Chris Hamm, Mark Bultman and Josh Bartzen, and (rear) Bill Kreykenbohm, Derrik Forshee, Jay Braun, Matt Bixler, John Revette, Ken Ferebee and Mark Ford. Missing: Doug Walker, Jeff Franco, Joe Lombardo, Bill Anhut, Mike Gummey, Brian Hurney, John Talotta and Jeff Fus.
Once a Tool, always a Tool. Helping Sarv celebrate his birthday at our June 17 games were some of his favorite "old timers", Barbara and Bill Kreykenbohm [1981-2007, but still wearing his parka], Bob Emeritz [1981-1984, 1987] and Jim Rohrbach [1992-2001].
